About us

WE AIM TO CREATE JOY THROUGH BEAUTIFULLY DESIGNED JEWELLERY

ENAMEL Copenhagen creates joy through beautiful Danish design. Our jewellery combines the colourful and playful with the elegant and classic. It is our wish that the jewellery, with their refined use of colours, stones, and pearls, bring JOY to the person who wears them.

ENAMEL is referring to the hand-painted strokes of colour that are characteristic of the brand’s unique jewellery universe. Colours are deeply embedded in our DNA – they bring joy and life, which is why they always play a central role in our collections.

ENAMEL Copenhagen’s jewellery is made from 18-carat gold-plated sterling silver, 80% of which is recycled silver. It is important to us to offer jewellery at a price point that is accessible to all, so that every jewellery lover can wear our pieces and experience them as part of life’s joys, celebrations, and memories.

MEET THE FOUNDER AND DESIGNER MARIE RANTZAU

We are a Danish jewellery brand founded in 2012 by designer Marie Rantzau. Marie's love for jewellery and her endless fascination with combining enamel, colours, metals, and stones in new, unique ways is the heart of ENAMEL Copenhagen.

“I feel we have been very lucky in that the timing has been right and we’ve had momentum every year. And it has been fun. In our process of building the brand, we’ve worked from instinct, good business sense, empathy, and a good mood. This has led us to where we are today. We’ve approached it with an open mind, and that has taken us very far.”

“We were first movers with enamel back then. Using enamel in that way was completely new. I became fascinated by enamel and thought it was fresh, eye-catching, and a delight to the eye, and no one was making jewellery in that way. It was the colours that made it – I really enjoy working with colours and everything that colours can do.”

“The first time I was at a jewellery fair, I brought along a small collection. I had no idea about fairs; I bought a bunch of lilies for the stand and displayed all the enamel pendants. The beautiful colour universe of the enamel attracted customers – people came over to see what we were selling. It was a new way to enter the market; I don’t know if you could do that today. It was very spontaneous, and it gained momentum with lots of orders for jewellers and interior shops.”

LEARN MORE ABOUT OUR JEWELLERY

Marie was fascinated by the material enamel and thought a lot about how she could further develop the concept.

“I had, through my previous work as a buyer of jewellery components, extensive knowledge of materials and a lot of experience testing jewellery parts – what worked and what didn’t. I’ve always been interested in how things can be made smarter. I used to fiddle with all sorts of gadgets and devices around the house – when my parents got a new car, I would spend hours out there clicking on everything that could be clicked. I was simply fascinated by all things technical and by how things and workflows can be improved, made easier, and more fun. This has been my driving force and often my source of inspiration.”

“My work with enamel thus went from being a good idea – that it was the material I was fascinated by – to me starting to design ENAMEL Copenhagen jewellery, which is a personal expression of what I think is beautiful. I love being in creative mode, and I’m excited to see where this creative joy will take us next.”

“ENAMEL Copenhagen jewellery is meant to be a delight to the eye and bring joy to the person who wears it. I am inspired by colours, nature, beautiful spaces, and what’s happening in the world. At the same time, I have a deep love for the classic.”

BESTSELLER AND SIGNATURE STYLES

Marie designs four collections a year: Spring/Summer, High Summer, Autumn/Winter, and Christmas. All collections can be mixed and matched in countless ways, offering endless combinations and rich opportunities to create a unique and personal look.

One example of our bestsellers is the Lola necklace. Lola features a delicate chain with small coloured enamel beads, and it has become our signature piece. The Lola collection is perfectly classic, while also offering a playful use of colour that adds something special.

Another bestseller is the Belle Hoops – Belle is perfect for everyday wear when you want a small twist or a pop of colour. Belle looks quite simple when you hold the earring in your hand, but when worn, it’s just the extra touch that many people love. It brings a playful personality while still being stylish and discreet.

Other classics of ours include the Kai Pearl, Significant Pearl, and Sofia Earrings. What these beautiful gold earrings have in common is the use of 100% natural freshwater pearls, which bring a timeless elegance that never grows old. The Sofia earrings also come in beautiful colours, which perfectly tie together our colourful DNA.

We are always evolving and exploring how to update our classics with a new twist that feels relevant today. We've introduced some more handcrafted, raw, and rustic designs, like the Windy and Wave collections, which can still be combined with our fine and classic jewellery.

Our design approach combines both handmade craftsmanship and more advanced processes using 3D drawings and 3D printers. Here, with the latest technology, we can refine designs down to the smallest detail, which helps minimise the process of sending samples back and forth to suppliers.

When Marie designs a collection, she is very conscious of ensuring there are pieces at different price points, so everyone can participate:

ENAMEL only exists because we are such a large community, both within the team and because so many people follow us and appreciate what we do. I have customers who have been with us from the very beginning, who come into the shop and share how they remember my first designs, which are still their favourite pieces. This makes me incredibly proud and happy about everything we have achieved together at ENAMEL Copenhagen.

ABOUT THE TEAM

ENAMEL Copenhagen has been in constant growth from the very beginning, and Marie is in no doubt about the reason for this:

"ENAMEL Copenhagen would never be the company it is today if I hadn’t been so lucky to meet the right colleagues and employees who truly live and breathe what they do and find it enjoyable. I’m happy that they have been able to understand the universe of ENAMEL Copenhagen. I’ve laid the foundations and values for my team, but it’s not a one-person business. The team has to function, and everyone must feel good. It’s important for me to create close relationships within my team. Joy is a core value for us, and it should be felt at every level – in customer care, in our collaborations with suppliers, sales agents, and retailers, and within our team of great colleagues."

"I’m very focused on what people’s needs are and how we can create a safe and joyful universe where we can build something together. Joy opens up creativity, humour, and a good mood, and creativity then becomes a space where everyone can contribute. There needs to be room for making mistakes and saying the wrong thing – that’s okay. It makes creativity bubble, and it helps move us forward. Humour ranks high among my life values, which is why laughter, fun, and mischief need to be a big part of my daily life for me to thrive. It inspires me, and I believe humour is one of the most life-affirming things there is."

"For every step we take, I think it gets better. I’m truly proud of what we’ve achieved, but I always want to move forward, to somewhere new. I’m very focused on our progress, and it’s important that we keep reinventing ourselves."

OUR GREEN JOURNEY

It is important to us that we produce our jewellery with consideration for the environment. We use 80% recycled silver and are constantly working towards reaching 100%. We have a sustainability report, which we compile in collaboration with an external advisory firm.

We have established strong relationships with our jewellery suppliers in Thailand, where we have built long-term partnerships with both larger and smaller workshops. We are proud to contribute to creating jobs for people who need good working conditions.

To ensure the quality of our precious metals, our jewellery is regularly tested by Danish Assay Control.

ENAMEL Copenhagen has experienced steady growth since its founding in 2012 and has received the Børsen Gazelle Award five years in a row, from 2018 to 2022.

Our purpose is to create joy through beautiful design.
